A 24-week-old premature baby was declared dead by nurses because she wasn't breathing or crying at the time of birth

The supposedly diseased baby was handed over to her family, who hurriedly took her home and arranged for her burial

On the burial day, when everything was set to dispatch the toddler back to heaven, the family noticed the 'dead baby' was in fact breathing. What exactly happened at the hospital?

A newborn baby who had been declared dead by nurses in an Indian hospital miraculously came back to life moments before her burial.

Durgesh Rathore is seen wrapped in a blanket and hugging her knees after delivering her baby 24 weeks early.

The 24-week-old premature baby was delivered in Pandit Brij Sunder Sharma General Hospital in Bundi district, western India.

However, her 25-year-old mother, identified as Mrs Durgesh Rathore, was left heartbroken when the nurses at the hospital informed her that her premature baby was dead because she wasn't crying or breathing shortly after she was born.

The hospital authorities are seen here discussing the matter with the family of the newborn.

Rathore and her husband Mr Mithas Rathore were left with no other choice but to take the lifeless body of their baby home for burial.

"We took the baby for burial after she was declared dead by the hospital authorities," says Mr Rathore.

The young baby was declared dead by nurses at the hospital.

But something unexpected happened on the burial day. The family discovered, moment before the burial, that the supposedly dead child was in fact breathing. They reportedly felt her heartbeat.

"Even the pit had been dug but then we felt her heartbeats and breathing and we rushed the baby back to the hospital," says Mr Rathore.

At the hospital, the doctors reportedly held that the baby was born extremely premature with only her lungs functioning, adding that her survival was hardly possible.

"The baby was motionless, with no cry or respiration and the on-duty nursing staff handed over the newborn to the family members after declaring her dead," says Dr O P Verma, deputy superintendent at the hospital.

The medical officer on duty that day examined the baby and confirmed that she was indeed breathing. The toddler was then placed on Intensive Care Unit.

"We have set up inquiry into the matter and the guilty would be punished," says Dr Verma.

Meanwhile, Mr and Mrs Rathore are praying for their baby to survive so that they can go back home with her alive. They are hopeful that she will survive by God's grace.
